π₯ Discovering shared enemies
Why would you want to share enemies with your audience?
In personal AND corporate branding, knowing who you're battling is critical. We make emotional decisions, life is a f-in hustle, and we tend to work with people who not only get it, but who are leading the way to defeating those enemies.
What is a shared enemy?
A psychological phenomenon that brings people together to bond over a shared opponent or issue, usually when they have little obvious in common.
These are very powerful because your platform can give voice to this enemy.
One enemy I share with some of my clients and followers: poor leadership
This manifests in a few ways, depending on the person and role:
- Company wonβt give me budget
- Higher ups arenβt supportive
- I canβt get sign off on my ideas
- Trying to grow & lead a team while buffering from leadership BS
- Need tools to navigate poor leadership and still make impact
- Can I change the way leadership thinks?
- Doing 8 jobs for one salary
- Being asked to do things at work I donβt understand
- Need the salary, but work is traumatic
One step in the process to defining yours is to determine 4 things around your shared lived experiences:
challenges, feelings, changes, and impact
Here are a few questions to get you started:
- What are some notable challenges in your shared experience?
- (for me, what's it like for career marketers in corporate America?)
- Which experiences made you feel the most alone, or ashamed?
- How did they impact your life or work?
- How did they impact how others see you?
- What was the trigger or event that changed this for you?
- What limiting belief did you have to overcome?
- What habits did you have to overcome?
- What was the impact of your changed belief or behavior?
π€·ββοΈ Then, you get curious and validate by listening to your clients and followers.
If you want hands on help from me on creating this, there are 6 spots left in the cohort. Admission closes Tuesday.
